I recently serviced a Roland Juno-60 that was unusually difficult when it came to the final step – uploading the Roland factory patches.
What I had
- (Newly serviced) Roland Juno-60
- The patches .wav file, downloaded from https://sunshine-jones.com/roland-factory-data-cassettes/
- Computer + Focusrite Scarlett 6i6 audio interface
What I did
- Set The Memory Protect switch on the rear panel of the Juno-60 to OFF (which is the normal state)
- Connect a mono audio cable from the Left main output of the audio interface to the Juno-60 Tape Load input.
Important: I could not make it work with the headphones output! - Begin playback of the audio file
- Press the Load button on the Juno-60 (while the file is still on the lead-in signal)
The Load indicator LED will light up and the program number display goes blank. (This does not indicate success, it just means that the Juno-60 is in Tape Receive mode.) - When the Load Indicator goes out and the program number display shows “–“, the load is complete
– If you get “Er” in the prog nr display: Decrease the interface’s output volume and start over
– If you play to the end of the file but you don’t get “–” in display, you should increase the output volume and start over
I had almost full volume on the audio interface. If your volume is too low, you will not know until you have played the entire file without getting “–” in the end.
